Dermal Filler for Scars

Dermal Filler for Scars

Dermal filler is well known for its ability to plump the skin, add volume and make clients skin appear more youthful. What many people don’t know is that dermal filler is a great option to reduce the appearance of facial scarring. This treatment is used to effectively treat and eliminate a various type of scars and can help a person who may have been self-conscious about their facial scars.

Dermal filler can effectively treat the appearance of scarring such as:

  • Acne scars
  • Chicken pox scars
  • Burn Scars
  • Scars from surgery
  • Scars from injuries

The most common type of facial scars are acne scars. These are skin-coloured indentations on the texture of the skin which are caused by severe cases of acne. When acne is severe it can cause acne cysts which are large areas that fill with puss. When these occur, it is difficult for the skin tissue to grow back. When the cyst finally empties and heals there can be a scar left on the skin There are many different types of acne scarring such as:

  • Boxcar acne scars
  • Atrophic acne scars
  • Ice pick acne scars
  • Macular scars
  • Mixed acne scars
  • Keloid scars

One of the most common and effective treatments for facial scars is dermal filler. Dermal filler is formulated with high levels of hyaluronic acid which naturally occurs in the skin. Here at Face Hub Facial Aesthetics, we use Juvéderm filler which works well for acne scars because its texture is thin and mailable.

Before treatment you will have a consultation with your practitioner to assess your skin condition and see what treatment plan will work best for you. The skin will be numbed with topical anaesthetic cream to reduce any pain or discomfort. The dermal filler will then be injected into the areas where the scarring is prominent. This will cause the skin in these areas to become plumper which will give the appearance of overall smoother skin and reduce the appearance of the scars.

The great thing about dermal filler is that the clients will see the results immediately after treatment. There is also little to no recovery time. There may be minor swelling and bruising but this should settle down in a bout a week which is when the results will be more obvious.

The length of time in which dermal filler for scars last depends on the metabolism of the person, what area of the skin is being treated and the type of scarring it is. Juvéderm has the longest results which can last from 9 to 12 months. So, these patients may only need top ups once or twice a year. Over time with repeated treatments the scar tissue can break down and stimulate collagen production. This means the appearance of the scars are reduced naturally and there are less aggressive treatments needed as often.

Here at Face Hub Facial Aesthetics, we also can prescribe medicated Obagi products which can help to reduce acne which still occurs. Using these products alongside treatment will give you beautiful skin and your confidence back.

At Face Hub Facial Aesthetics, we offer consultations to all our patients where you can explain your desired results and one of our expert practitioners can asses your skin and choose a treatment plan which will help you achieve these results.
