The Zoom Boom

In the current ways of the world due to the global pandemic of Covid-19 it has become the new norm for people to work from home. The use of zoom calls, skype and Microsoft Teams has become our new way of communicating. There are many changes that have come from this global pandemic but a very surprising one is the rise in desire for facial aesthetics and plastic surgery due to these zoom meetings etc. What is known as the ‘Zoom Boom’ is the recent upsurge of demand for facial aesthetics and plastic surgery during the pandemic from always seeing their face on a screen and becoming more self-conscious of things that would usually go unnoticed.

In the last few months there has been a rise in the market of facial aesthetics which practitioners believe is down to there being sufficient time for recovery periods from being at home and that zoom meetings are making people notice more facial flaws that may not have been noticed before by seeing themselves constantly on a screen.

Even though the Zoom Boom is what professionals think is that cause for the rise in cosmetic procedures there are other reasons that could be taken into consideration such as:

People can now stay and work from home which provides a good window of time to recover from cosmetic surgery.

When going outside people are wearing face masks which makes it easier to hide treatment done especially around the lower area of the face like the lips, chin or jaw.

The current global pandemic has made people really have time to think about things that are important to them which could be them wanting to feel confident in themselves.

Due to the fact that people are spending less money on clothes, travel or nights out it provides them with more expenses which can be spent on cosmetic treatments.

In the past few months there are certain procedures which have seen a significant rise in demand. Facial aesthetics to smooth, add volume or reshape facial features such as dermal and lip fillers or anti-wrinkle injections for all areas of the face have had the highest surge in demand. These are treatments that are non-invasive and have little to no recovery time which is why they may be popular during the pandemic. There has also been a surprising rise in demand for liposuction. This could be because people feel like they are not getting enough exercise and might have put on a little bit of weight during the lockdowns.

It is a surprising change that would not be expected during a global pandemic but at the same time it is completely understandable that people want to look their best and if there is something, they are self-conscious about and want to change, then why not?
