Skin Consultations

Sometimes we might look in the mirror and think we would like to look a little fresher or younger but have had no experience in the aesthetics area and have no clue what options are available. Ultimately, we just don ‘t know what treatment we want! Indeed many clients are confused about what treatment is best for them when they visit Dr Laura Fee. Some think they need a facelift when a non-invasive non-surgical option will give them the results they desire. Therefore, Dr Laura Fee offers a free skin consultation. Consultations are important for all new patients to ensure that we can prescribe the most appropriate treatments for you. We assess each case individually in order to understand what factors are underlying the conditions that we are going to treat. We offer expert skin consultations for patients who are considering one or several of our advanced skin treatments, completely free of charge.. your consultation at our clinic will consist of a full skin assessment, looking at all aspects of the skin, from volume and laxity to anti-ageing and pigmentation.

This process is crucial to the development of an effective treatment plan to guarantee the results that meet your desires and expectations as our valued patient. There may have been some volume loss in your skin/face, and we might recommend FILLERS or FAT TRANSFER. Some of your facial lines may be caused by dynamic muscle use and can be treated/attenuated by using injections. Often loss of elasticity can be addressed by skin tightening, for looser skin on the body or early stretch marks.

Equally for the body, you may have some weight or shape issues e.g. indecision on what method to improve your shape when exercise and diet won’t satisfy the job and the use of your own FAT to TRANSFER e.g. to augment the HANDS, FACE and BREASTS. The consultation process is important to each and every treatment, allowing you to express your concerns and what you hope to gain from your treatment plan. Don’t be afraid to open up to allow for a highly personalised treatment plan to form because only then can you hope to achieve the results you desire.

We’d love to hear from you, so do get in touch and schedule your FREE consultation today. More information on all our available treatments can be found on our new website and you can also give the clinic a call to have a personal conversation regarding your situation. We take every patient journey very seriously and love being a part of your journey to a better you.

How Practitioners Determine Skin Type

Obagi is known as one of the best skin care ranges in the world but yet it can’t be bought in regular retail shops. This is because the products can only be provided by licensed practitioners due to the formulas and ingredients in them. Most Obagi products must be prescribed by your practitioner and before this they need to determine your skin type to provide the correct products for you. A consultation with your Face Hub practitioner is the only way they can asses your skin type and concerns.

There are 5 typical factors that a practitioner will assess to determine your skin type. These factors are vital in choosing the right products that are proven to work on your skin. The five factors that are taken into consideration is the colour, thickness, oiliness, laxity and fragility.

  1. Skin Colour- The range in which skin colour is assessed is called the Fitzpatrick scale. This range goes from pale white skin which will always burn and will not tan to black skin which will not burn. There are various shades in between that may include skin that will tan etc.
  2. Skin Thickness- A practitioner will look at the function of depth of your skin. There are three main layers of skin called the epidermis, dermis and the subcutaneous. The layer on top of these is called the stratum corneum and consists of dead skin cells.
  3. Oiliness- The skin will be determined as normal, dry or oily depending on the amount of oil that is secreted in the skin and its fatty acid, lipids and ceramide levels.
  4. Laxity- This is how much the collagen and elastin has broken down under the skin as we age which can create a thinner dermis and a sagging appearance.
  5. Fragility- This is the skins reaction and tolerance to procedures and products.

When your practitioner has determined all of these skin factors, they will create a skin profile and treatment plan for your specific skin type. This will then help them provide you with a unique skin care routine that will help to give you the best results possible. There are a number of things that can affect our skin such as age, lifestyle, and sun exposure. There are many products on the market now that promise people the perfect skin but half of them are not even scientifically tested. This is why it is important to always consults with your practitioner so they can provide you with the right skin care products from Obagi which are clinically proven to work.

Differences Between Dermal Filler And Anti-wrinkle Injections

Here at Face Hub Facial Aesthetics, we know that it can be difficult for clients to know the difference between dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. This is because for years any facial aesthetic injectables all fell under the one name of anti-wrinkle injections. The main difference between the two is that anti-wrinkle injections are used to freeze the muscles and stop wrinkles caused by ageing or expressions. Dermal fillers however are formulated with hyaluronic acid to fill, smoothen or plump areas which have lost volume. Even though they treat different things they can be used in the same treatment at times. To make it easier to understand we will outline the differences between the two products.

Anti-wrinkle Injections

This is a muscle relaxer which is made from bacteria. It has been used for over two decades and was originally used to treat neurological disorders that weaken the muscles, migraines and other health conditions. With facial aesthetics it is used to freeze or relax the muscle near wrinkles to stop the movement which causes these wrinkles to appear. As we age it is normal for us to get wrinkles around the forehead, mouth and eyes which are the main treatment areas for anti-wrinkle injections. It is not usually used for fine lines which are caused due to loss of volume in the skin.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are formulated with hyaluronic acid which is naturally in the skin. When we age, collagen and elastin which keeps the skin plump and tight starts to break down. This creates loss of volume, sagging skin and fine lines. Dermal filler is injected into these areas to refill the loose area of the skin and make them plump and youthful looking. They can also be used in improving the appearance of wrinkles and scarring.

Anti-wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are known for their efficiency in reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Most patients will see a noticeable difference after about a week. There can be some side effects such as swelling or bruising but this will usually fade after about a week. Once the results start to fade you will need additional treatments to keep the results.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Filler injections have a very high efficiency rate. The best dermal filler product which is used here in Face Hub Facial Aesthetic is known as Juvéderm.  Nearly 90% of patients who have had Juvéderm treatment have seen positive and satisfactory results. Similar to Anti-wrinkle Injections once the results start to fade additional injections will be needed.

Anti-wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injection results usually last up to 3 or 4 months before additional injections will be needed. This is slightly shorter than dermal filler injections. In some patients it can last longer. People who have had this treatment done for the first time usually notice that it doesn’t last but when you have had a second or multiple treatments it can last a lot longer.

Dermal Filler

Dermal Filler can last a lot longer than Anti-wrinkle Injections. Depending on the area being treated, the amount of filler, the type of filler and the patient’s metabolism to break it down, dermal filler can last between 3 months and two years. Once the filler starts to break down, additional injections will be needed. Similar to anti-wrinkle injections, dermal filler lasts longer the more treatments you have done.

Recovery Time

The recovery of anti-wrinkle injections and Dermal filler is basically the same. Both treatments are non-invasive and quick. Most people can go about their normal day after having these treatments. Both injections can lead to minor swelling and bruising but this will usually go down within a week or two. Results for both treatments can be seen instantly but once the bruising and swelling goes down the final results are noticeable.
